About
Hi, I’m Jason Whitley, an interactive and multimedia artist in Chapel Hill, NC.
I’m Creative Lead at UNC-Chapel Hill Teaching and Learning Interactive. I also illustrate and sometimes write a weekly webcomic Sea Urchins with author Scott Eckelaert.
For many years I worked as an illustrator and interactive artist for MCT newspapers. My newspaper illustrations can be found at MCTDIRECT.
With designer and photographer, Luke Trautwein, I wrote the actionscript code for the Charlotte Observer’s Phuzzle. Tony Lonefight is now handling the feature, which is also in use at the Kansas City Star.
With Ted Mellnik, I developed a live-election-result mapping system in Flash, php, xml and ASP for the Charlotte Observer.
I art direct, actionscript, illustrate and animate Kidzter.com with Bob Heyman, Dasith DaSilva, Mike Haverstock, Chad Arrowsmith and many others.
I also illustrated a Christmas fable by J. Paige Straley, Jack’s Christmas.
I’ve illustrated books and comics and made multimedia and interactives for many clients, referenced in other places on this site.
I love being outside running and swimming and skiing and looking drawing painting, etcetera.
My email is jason (remove the [at]) undercurrentart.com
