Illustration-niche PodCasts

I’ve always listened to few podcasts, mostly those from NPR, and I’ve finally discovered illustration-related podcasts! I’ll add to this list as I come across new ones… But this is a great starting point for a lot of catching up…
I love the reasoning behind the name of Escape from Illustration Island. Michael Oatley’s ArtCast is also good, as is Stephen Heller’s website.

I guess when I’m done catching up, it’ll be time for a Hangover at Big Illustration Party Time.

Sea Urchins is off and running

Here’s the press release I’ve been sending to everyone.

Darla Gets Eaten by a Pungo!
Announcing the return of Sea Urchins, the critically-acclaimed newspaper strip with a cult following.

Olie Unrun always wanted to live a life at sea. Instead, he worked at his dad’s fish-oil factory and began the life of a family man. One day something in Olie snapped and he built a ship on his land… then he relocated his house to the deck of the ship and christened the whole shebang “The Banana Moon.” All Olie had to do was wait for the right storm to lift his house to the sea.

Now adrift, the Unruns piece together each day through a host of uncommon creatures and comic calamities. Tune in every Monday as a new chapter of the full-color comic strip, Sea Urchins, is posted at http://www.seaurchins.net.

Sea Urchins, all characters and likenesses are copyright Jason Whitley and Scott Eckelaert, 2010

Jam sketch

Friend, Cartoonist, Photographer, Projection Dome guy, 3D guy, Renaissance Computing guy Eric Knisley and I completed a Jam Sketch in February. Not a big deal… except that it’s 8.5 feet long. Take a look at the entire sketch here and scroll down to see the video of the unveiling. The answer to the question Eric says to ask me is: it was my dog’s birthday when I drew that.

New job, new town, same house

New job: Instructional animation and multimedia specialist at UNC-Chapel Hill. Beautiful place, great people, great job.

If I’ve fallen off the planet for anyone, sorry. Relocating, packing, selling are the reasons why. Things are finally settling into a new routine… now if the house in Charlotte would get sold…

Hope to get back to work and start posting again soon.
